It's a bit of a surprise release given that our beta tester is extremely fast, and as a result I wasn't able to anticipate how quickly "within the year" apparently actually entailed, but here we are. that irons out some of these kinks, though.Well, here we are. I honestly wouldn't mind a sequel for Zero Two, Tamers, etc.

Sigh, I just really miss the days when JRPG cutscenes had actual cinematography to them. I'm not sure when the gaming community collectively decided that they preferred storytelling where characters have to audibly describe what's happening at all times because the text boxes aren't capable of showing us. This format only exacerbates the boredom of overly-written dialogue. Just be prepared to sink a lot of time into it.Ĭutscenes are also done primarily through those supremely boring "talking portraits and text boxes over a static background" that are far too common in JRPGs these days. It's interesting for the side quests that add to the lore of Adventure and further build the characters. The game is supposedly built this way so that the player will rely more on buff/debuff abilities, but said abilities only last for a few turns, and the abilities that lower enemy stats fail 8 times out of 10 (giving your own buffs time to wear off while you keep trying).

enemies suddenly get way higher stats for no good reason) that requires you to grind several levels in order to overcome. It's fairly smooth sailing until after you meet Devimon for the first time, at which point there's a sudden spike in difficulty (i.e. It's pretty telling when, on a New Game Plus with level 60-70 characters, it still took me more than one turn to defeat fucking Shellmon. Not just bosses, either standard enemies are likewise buffed to all hell. It has the same problem as Cyber Sleuth's "Hard Mode" in that it isn't actually harder, they just give each enemy ridiculously high HP and defense so that each fight takes about ten times longer than it should. I actually recently played through the English patch, and my quickie review is that fights take far too long.
